You Are Invited

We warmly invite you to join us for this Silent Meditation Retreat.

Our silent meditation retreat is a gentle, yet profound chance to tap into the power of meditation by combining it with silence. Spending dedicated time in a supportive atmosphere it is like a deep dive into meditation and your inner world.

Utilising the Yoga in Daily Life meditation techniques of self inquiry, mantra chanting, sound and silence to foster a deeper, more intimate connection with your authentic Self.

The Experience

Step into stillness and peace with our silent residential retreat, where time gently unfolds across three full days of silence and inward practice, bookended by two short days for gentle and mindful transition from and to the world. Within this sacred pause, participants are invited to rest in mauna - Sanskrit for silence - and journey inward through meditation, deep rest and quiet self inquiry.

This retreat is a sanctuary for the soul, offering space to soften, to listen, and to return to the quiet wisdom within. Whether you're beginning your path or deepening a long held practice, you'll be held in a rhythm of simplicity and presence - an invitation to reconnect, restore and remember the stillness that is always there.

As well as meditation sessions the retreat includes Satsang (sharing of yogic wisdom), gentle asana (yoga exercises / postures), live meditation music, chanting, Yoga Nidra (guided deep relaxation) and silent walks in the beautiful nature around us.

This retreat is facilitated mostly by Swami Madhuram.

Swami Madhuram is a sannyasi, which means he is a renunciate, a monk in the Hindu tradition. He dedicates his life to practicing, living and teaching the yogic way, following the philosophy of his spiritual master Vishwaguruji Praramhans Swami Maheshwarananda.

You will have the chance to learn from Swami Madhuram's many years of devotion to his practice, the simplicity yet depth of his insight, and imbibe the sense of peace that emanates from him.

Why Silence?

Mauna is the Sanskrit word for the practice of silence.

It is said that speech and thought are the main areas where we waste or lose prana (energy). We give out a lot of energy when talking. It creates external noise that is a reflection of our inner mental chatter. Even when no one is around, we tend to keep the conversation going in our heads without realising it. During meditation, this inner noise is a real distraction. That is why we observe silence throughout the retreat - no speaking, gesturing, eye contact etc and also no phones, texts, reading etc - so we can quieten the mind and create a peaceful space for everyone. Mauna creates stability in the mind. While it can be challenging at first, many people find it deeply rejuvenating and rewarding in the clarity it can cultivate. Even learning to move and act more quietly and softly helps us to experience awareness and precence.

This retreat is ideal for
  • beginners in meditation and yoga who are looking to grow their practice
  • experienced meditators who enjoy the richness of silent retreats
  • spiritual seekers
  • meditation and yoga teachers interested in growing professionally
